2019 AORA Annual Meeting

4 - 5 October 2019  //  National Convention Centre, Canberra, ACT

It will be my pleasure to welcome you to the 2019 Australian Orthopaedic Registrar’s Association's (AORA) Annual Conference, to be held from 4 – 5 October 2019 at National Convention Centre, Canberra, ACT.

The conference will combine registrar research presentations with a series of Instructional Course Lectures from prominent orthopaedic surgeons and former examiners, on a wide range of topics from the curriculum.

Abstract submissions for the meeting are now open for AOA Associate Members (AOA Trainees). If you are an AOA Trainee, please contact for details regarding how to submit. The scientific sessions allow registrars to showcase research in front of the national registrar body, as well as the opportunity to win some great prizes. The meeting is also recognised for research points. Abstract submissions close on Friday 10 May 2019.

Prizes available during the meeting include:

  • The Allan Frederick Dwyer Prize – given to the best paper from the conference. The winner will receive airfare, accommodation, and registration to attend the 2020 APOA meeting.

  • The Second Best Paper Prize – the winner will receive airfare, accommodation, and registration to attend the 2020 AOA ASM.

  • The Best Trauma Research Paper (awarded by OTC South Pacific) – the winner will receive one free delegate registration at an OTC Advanced Fracture Management Cadaveric Course. This prize will be valid for 18 months and does not include travel, accommodation, or other expenses.

  • Avant, as AOA’s MDO Diamond Partner, is offering a bursary to support attendance and registration at the 2019 AORA Conference. The bursary will be awarded to the best abstract application as judged by the AORA Scientific Committee.

Following the success in 2018,  I am very pleased to advise that onsite childcare will be made available again at the meeting this year. AOA has again partnered with Abracadbra Childcare to provide this service from on the 4th and 5th October. The service will be available for children aged 0 – 5 years of age from 7.00am to 6pm each day. Please visit the ‘Childcare’ page on this website for further information.
