AORA 2019  //  4 - 5 October 2019  //  Canberra, ACT

Canberra Convention Centre

(Very central)

5 mins walk to Lake Burley Griffin and the Canberra Centre Shopping Mall  & several good restaurants.

Bring your partners and families - there is SO much to in walking distance

Most of Canberra’s Highlights are in 10-45 mins walking distance from the Convention Centre in the gorgeous Canberra spring weather on pram-friendly paths. Canberra shall be alive with spring blossoms.

10min drive but worth a visit:

(an excellent location for family accommodation if you prefer not to stay in a hotel)

Kingston has two main locales:

Central Kingston: location of many short stay self-contained apartments

Kingston Foreshore: 15mins walk from Central Kingston on Lake Burley Griffin

  • Central Kingston is ~10 minutes taxi/Uber to Convention Centre

  • Lovely park with playground (Telopea Park) nearby

  • Good independent supermarket

  • Many restaurants & cafes within 5mins walking distance

  • Also only 10 mins walk to Manuka Precinct from Old Kingston (Urban Pantry & ONA Cafes are Manuka favourites)

Lake Burley Griffin Walk/Run

(5km Circuit - Please see map below: Walking/running loops in red, Coffee marked with “X")

I would strongly recommend whether you stay at Kingston (~15mins walk to Lake Burley Griffin via Telopea Park) or near the Convention Centre ( 500m walk to the lake) that you consider a walk/run around Lake Burley Griffin

Beautiful 5km pram-friendly walking/running circuit past the National Art Gallery, National Library, Portrait Gallery (All 3 have great cafe) and Questacon (hours of entertainment for kids of all ages!)

Cafes/coffee carts (marked with an “X” on map)

  •  The Deck @ Regatta Point

  •  Bookplate at the National Library  Lovely outdoor terrace overlooking the lake

  • National Portrait Gallery Great Indoor/Outdoor Cafe and Gift Shop

  •  NGA Cafe

Several excellent playgrounds including:

  • The Stone Fort

  • Boundless Playground

  • Commonwealth Park Playground

  • Glebe Park, close to the Canberra Centre Shopping Mall is also very beautiful

If looking for more places to walk (with or without pram) consider

  • Canberra Yacht Club via the beautiful Chinese & Lennox Gardens. The Yacht Club does not have great coffee but is an awesome place to have fish & chips (and a glass of wine if you like) by the lake

  • The National Museum - also a very pleasant walk by the lake with a nice indoor/outdoor cafe and very lovely perspective of Capital Hill
